The confocal-chromatic measurement system confocalDT consists of a controller with an LED-light source and a sensor. Both the sensor and the controller are connected via optical fiber up to a distance of 50 m. The distance of the focal point varies due to the chromatic aberration of the sensor optics. A certain distance is assigned to each wavelength in the controller. The reflected light from the target surface is passed to the receiver optics, where the spectral intensity dispersion is evaluated. This unique measuring principle enables displacements and distances to be measured with the highest precision. Both diffuse and specular surfaces can be measured. With transparent materials, a one-sided thickness measurement, or gaps between multiple transparent layers, can be calculated along with the distance measurement using just one sensor.
